Sophie is an associate in the planning, environment and public law team at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ, and has experience in transactional, litigious and advisory matters in these areas. Sophie advises on a broad range of planning, environmental and public law issues, acting for both private and public sector clients.  

Sophie’s experience includes advising on appeals under section 28F of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981, judicial review claims, planning agreements, rights of way issues, compulsory purchase orders, powers of public bodies and nature conservation law.  

Sophie trained at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²Ê×ÊÁÏ, having previously worked in the firm’s London office, and is now based at the firm’s Nottingham office.  

Sophie was previously seconded to Natural England for almost a year, and regularly presents at our Public Sector Planning Club and Private Sector Development Club.

Judicial Review

Representing both claimants and defendants on various judicial review claims, in the environmental and education sectors.

Compulsory Purchase Orders

Advising various local authorities on compulsory purchase matters, including the drafting of statements of reasons, draft orders, and schedules required for compulsory purchase orders, as well as advising on strategy. 

Development Consent Orders

Advising Thurrock Council and Emergency Services in relation to the Lower Thames Crossing Development Consent Order. This involved advising on all planning aspects of the draft DCO.

Section 28F Appeals

Advising Natural England as the Respondent in relation to various appeals brought under section 28F of the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. These appeals concern decisions by Natural England to refuse or modify consent to carry out operations on a SSSI.
