We regularly support schools at independent review panel (IRP) hearings by providing expert legal representation.

During an IRP the governing board’s decision to uphold a permanent exclusion is scrutinised. We recognise that this can often be a daunting and uncomfortable experience without the support from a legal representative. This is even more so when the circumstances surrounding the exclusion are complex and sensitive e.g. if special educational needs/disability is involved and if the parents have engaged legal representation.

Cost

Our charges will reflect the time spent at our hourly rates (available upon request), plus VAT and disbursements. We will provide an estimate based on the complexity and volume of papers, as well as the length of the hearing.

What is included

We will review the documents relating to the exclusion, advise on the general law and procedure relating to exclusions, attend the IRP hearing, prepare the school’s statement (if required — depending on the papers) and represent the school and governing board on the day of the hearing.
